DIY Beauty Recipes – Lip Scrub, Toner, & Bath Salts

December 23, 2019

I’ve always loved making DIY beauty products at home! It’s a lot of fun to whip up all sorts of products and I love the fact that I know exactly what ingredients are going to be used on my skin. These are three of my favorite DIY beauty/skincare recipes that are super quick and easy to make and as a plus, they make a lovely last minute Christmas gift! Let’s get started.

Recipe #1: Lip Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

Sugar

Coconut Oil

Cinnamon *optional

Peppermint Essential Oil *optional

Small Container

Start off by filling your container 3 quarters of the way with a granulated sugar of your choice. Sugar acts as the exfoliant in this recipe and will help get rid of any dry skin on your lips. Then add in less than a ¼ tsp of cinnamon, followed by a drop or two of peppermint essential oil. Cinnamon and peppermint essential oil are usually calming agents, but when used on the lips, they slightly irritate the top layer of your skin which gives your lips a natural plumping effect. Feel free to leave those two ingredients out!

Next, add in a tbsp or so of coconut oil which will act as the moisturizer in this recipe and will leave your lips soft and smooth! Then, thoroughly combine all the ingredients until you have a nice thick consistency. To use this, simply grab a small amount of the scrub and apply it onto your lips. Rub it into your lips gently in a circular motion to scrub off any dead skin and then leave the mixture on for about 2-5 minutes so that the coconut oil can sink in and hydrate your lips. Then wash it off, or if you’re so inclined, you can even lick it off since it’s completely edible!

Recipe #2: Rose Toner

Ingredients:

Witch Hazel

Rose Water

Lavender Essential Oil *optional

Tea Tree Essential Oil *optional

Small Spray Bottle

For this recipe, begin by filling your container 3 quarters of the way with rose water and then the remaining space with witch hazel. Rose water can be hard to find and the best place to get it is usually at an ethnic store. I picked up mine at a local indian store. When buying rose water, be sure to check the ingredients on the back as some brands add in unnecessary preservatives and chemicals and make sure that the only ingredients are rose petals and purified water. Rose water is very calming for the skin, while witch hazel relieves inflammation and skin irritation.

Then add in a few drops each of lavender essential oil and tea tree essential oil if you would like. Both of these oils have their own unique properties that can benefit your skin. Once you’ve added in all of these ingredients, cap your bottle and give it a good shake to mix everything. Your rose toner is ready to use!

Recipe #3: Lavender Chamomile Bath Salts

Ingredients:

Epsom Salts (I’m using fragrance-free ones)

Dried Lavender

Dried Chamomile

*or an Organic Tea (I used one with dried lavender, chamomile, blue mallow and lemongrass in it)

Lavender Essential Oil *optional

Sweet Orange Essential Oil *optional

Container for your Salts

Start off by adding your epsom salts to a bowl. Then add in around 2 tablespoons each of the dried lavender and dried chamomile. You can substitute these for an organic tea as well. I came across a lovely tea at my local grocery store made out of dried lavender, blue mallow flower, chamomile, and lemongrass. Then add in a few drops each of lavender essential oil and sweet orange essential oil. You can use any essential oils of your choice or that you have on hand for this recipe. Give everything a good mix and transfer it to your container. Your bath salts are ready to be used in a nice hot bath or even a foot soak!

All of these recipes take less than 20 minutes total to make and most of them require ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry which makes these a great last minute gift for any occasion! I hope you’ll enjoy making and using these diy products – let me know in the comments down below which recipe you’re most excited to try out!
